OH&S Committee Training

The aim of the training is to give OH&S Committees/WH&S Representatives/Designates the basic knowledge they require to fulfill their duties and responsibilities under the and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
There are TWO levels of certification required depending on the number of employees in your organization. For less than 10 Employees, Level 1: OH&S Committee/WH&S Representative and WH&S Designate is required. For 10 or more Employees, Level 2: OH&S Committee Training is required.
Committees/Representatives/Designates must renew their OH&S Committee training every three (3) years from the date of their certification.
Who Should Attend?
As per WorkplaceNL, employers are required to provide training as follows:
Workplaces with 9 or less workers shall provide Level 1: OH&S Committee/WH&S Representative and WH&S Designate training for a WH&S Representatives
Workplaces with 10 – 49 workers shall provide Level 2: OH&S Committee Training for the Occupational Health and Safety Committee co-chairs
Workplaces with 50 or more workers shall provide Level 2: OH&S Committee Training for all Occupational Health and Safety Committee members
Level 1: OH&S Committee/WH&S Representative and WH&S Designate
This is mandatory training for workplaces who employ less than 10 employees, and includes the following learning modules:
1. Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety
2. Hazard Recognition, Evaluation, and Control
3. Workplace Inspections
4. Incident Investigations
Once completed OH&S Committees/Representatives/Designates will have the knowledge they require to fulfill their duties and responsibilities under the Newfoundland & Labrador OH&S Act and Regulations.
This training will be a prerequisite for completing the Level 2 OH&S Committee training, which is a requirement for workplaces that employ 10 or more workers.
Level 2: OH&S Committee Training
This training is mandatory for all workplaces who employ 10 or more workers. The purpose of this training is to give OH&S members the knowledge they require to fulfill their duties and responsibilities under the Newfoundland & Labrador OH&S Act and Regulations.
Committee members are responsible for:
-Monitoring OH&S in the workplace;
- Being ambassadors, role models, and mentors of health and safety in the workplace;
- Playing a major role in developing and sustaining a positive health and safety culture in the workplace in conjunction with workers and employers; and
- Promoting occupational health & safety awareness in the workplace.
Learning Modules include:
1. Core OH&S Concepts
2. Essentials of Committees
3. Hazard Recognition, Evaluation, and Control
4. Making it Effective
